As an early-career researcher, Matthew is actively involved within several of the leading professional and scientific organizations including the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, American Society for Nutrition, and The Obesity Society. Matthew strives to be a leader within the field and has held leadership positions in several organizations and societies.
Matthew has recognized for his contributions to the field of nutrition and dietetics with awards including
California Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year
American Society for Nutrition Emerging Leader in Nutrition Education and Behavioral Science
Obesity Society’s Ethan Sims Young Investigator Award.
Matthew has been recognized as a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (FAND) and Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA).

Matthew works diligently towards the inclusion and advancement of underrepresented groups in epidemiological and community studies, of minority students in public health and dietetics education, and of minorities, women, and LGBTQ persons in science, academia, and the dietetics profession.
